All good things must come to an end… but who says they can't end with CHOCOLATE? 🍫
For our final Afternoon Tea on the Train at 422 Barton Street East, we decided that subtlety simply wasn't going to cut it.
We needed something indulgent. Something imaginative. Something wonderfully over the top.
Something that was, quite literally…
TO DIE FOR! 🖤
And so, on Halloween afternoon, we invite you aboard the HPH Train for DEATH BY CHOCOLATE, our final tea service in the space that has become home to so many beautiful afternoons, wonderful friendships and unforgettable memories.
And what better way to say farewell than with a little decadence?
🍫 A Deliciously Dark History
Chocolate has a fascinating history stretching back nearly 4,000 years to ancient Mesoamerica, where cacao was treasured and enjoyed as a ceremonial beverage, often blended with ingredients like chili peppers and cornmeal.
Long before chocolate became the sweet indulgence we know today, it travelled through royal courts, found favour among European aristocracy and eventually became part of the great culinary transformations of the Industrial Revolution.
From ancient rituals to the Palace of Versailles, chocolate has quite literally travelled the world!
But here's something we find particularly fascinating…
Chocolate doesn't have to be sweet!
Across the globe, cacao has long been used to bring richness, depth, colour and complexity to savoury dishes.
Of course, these days we tend to associate chocolate with celebration, comfort, romance, indulgence and those delicious little moments when we decide we absolutely deserve a treat.
And then there's Death by Chocolate.
Popularized as an extraordinarily rich dessert in the 1980s, its very name promises a level of chocolate decadence that borders on the ridiculous.
Naturally, that got us thinking…
What if we created an ENTIRE Afternoon Tea inspired by chocolate?
Not just the desserts.
Not just the sweets.
EVERYTHING!
And in true HPH fashion, Chef Lulu has happily accepted the challenge!

🍰 The Death by Chocolate Dessert
Our grand finale. Rich, decadent, unapologetically chocolatey and created especially for this occasion.
A fitting final sweet note for our last tea at 422 Barton Street East.
🍓🫖 Heather's Blend & a Little Chocolate Magic
Of course, no HPH Afternoon Tea would be complete without beautifully brewed tea!
And for this particular afternoon, one of our most beloved blends will be making a very special appearance.
Heather's Blend is a delicious marriage of strawberry and chocolate — fragrant, comforting and just a little indulgent.
Quite possibly the perfect sip for our final tea.
We'll also be offering a selection of expertly curated teas to complement the afternoon's menu, served bottomless in our beautiful vintage china.
And for those who fancy a little extra decadence…
🍸 Chocolate-inspired cocktails will be available for purchase!
Because chocolate and cocktails? Well, that sounds like a rather fabulous Saturday afternoon to us.
🚂 One Last Afternoon Aboard the Train
This tea is particularly special to us.
Over the past two years, our Afternoon Teas on the Train have become so much more than an event.
They've become a gathering place.
A place for birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations, reunions, first visits and familiar faces.
A place where strangers have become friends, where beautiful outfits have been proudly worn, where countless cups of tea have been poured and where laughter has filled every corner of our beloved train.
And on October 31, we will pour those teacups one final time at 422 Barton Street East.
While Hamilton Prop House prepares for its next chapter and the search for a new home, we wanted this final afternoon to be a celebration of everything that has made our little corner of Hamilton so special.
Not a goodbye to Tea on the Train.
Just a delicious farewell to the place where so many of these memories were made. ❤️
🎩 Dress for the Occasion!
It's Halloween, after all!
Think dark elegance, vintage glamour, chocolate browns, black lace, pearls, dramatic hats or whatever makes you feel fabulous.
Dressing up is always encouraged, but never required.
