"When the world first took notice of the De Von Ausferns they played the Rats Keller, Hamburg in the winter of 1962.
The band, who named themselves after the unknown baroque composer Johann Gambolputty de von Ausfern Schplenden Schlitter Crasscrenbon Fried Digger Dingle Dangle Dongle Dungle Burstein von Knacker Thrasher Apple Banger Horowitz Ticolensic Grander Knotty Spelltinkle Grandlich Grumblemeyer Spelter Wasser Kurstlich Himble Eisenbahnwagen Gutenabend Bitte ein Nürnburger Bratwürstel Gespurten mit Zweimache Luber Hundsfut Gumberaber Schönendanker Kalbsfleisch Mittleraucher von Hautkopft of Ulm , had a rough time back then, playing 4 sets of 8 hours every day , then going to bed at 6:00 p.m. , only to get up 2 hours earlier , to play their first set again. This hard life was the inspiration to the song “All Day And All Of The Night” , that they later left to a certain Ray Davies, a young musician they had met at the Reeperbahn. One night it was so cold at the Rats Keller that, as they played, the song “Have Love, Will Travel” froze in the amplifiers and only thawed hours later, at full volume, after somebody put the heating on for the soundcheck of a young American band , called The Sonics. And boy, were they impressed. They started to do that song themselves afterwards and kept that musical direction ever after. When Rock Music started to progress in the late 1960s the De Von Ausferns went back to England and kept playing their rough and primitive musical brand , which they had dubbed “Punk Rock” . They refused to follow the ‘long hair fashion’ and insisted on wearing their tweed suits, which made them even less fashionable. Eventually they played smaller and smaller gigs while their former peers from The Who or Led Zeppelin rose to stardom. In the 1970s it got so bad that they had to work as toilet cleaners in Croydon, where they met two young gents called Chris Millar and Ray Burns. The young chaps quickly got friends with the band and were deeply impressed by their musical energy. Soon afterwards they changed their names to Rat Scabies and Captain Sensible and formed a band of their own, which they called “The Damned”, making a reference to the tragical fate of their idols. Quickly the De Von Ausferns became friends and gurus to a whole new generation of young musicians whom they generously provided with songs and band names . Among their young followers were the likes of The Adverts, The Swell Maps, The Buzzcocks and many others . When they would not put a certain Malcolm McLaren on the guest list for one of their gigs , he got them blacklisted in return so they could not get a record deal anywhere - in a UK where Punk Rock, the music they had invented, was all the rage! Soon they got frustrated with the whole movement, that in their eyes had become a farce. Their swansong “Part Time Punks” , later became the first hit record for a band called T.V. Personalities. In 1977 they disbanded for good - or so they thought. In 2017 , their manager , Luigi Vercotti, emerged from a pub in Brockhampton where he had spent the last 40 years, hiding from the notorious Piranha brothers. In desperate need of a new income source he started to bring the band together again. Once again , the De Von Ausferns are giving the world a chance to listen to their very own brand of music that has been influential for so many generations of musicians and yet made them neither rich nor famous. This time they come back for their claim to fame, so the world will once remember the name De Von Ausferns as being one of the most important bands in the history of Rock Music."
