About this Event
Fertility Stories by Karleen Pendleton Jiménez
In this presentation and workshop, writer and filmmaker Karleen Pendleton Jiménez introduces their artistic practice and shares their personal and creative journey exploring fertility, queer family-making, reproductive desire, migration, identity, and cultural memory. Grounded in her lived experience, Karleen’s work examines the possibilities and challenges of creating families while navigating financial, legal, medical, cultural, and familial systems.
The presentation will include a screening of Karleen’s films The Butch and the Baby Daddy and Butch Coyolxauhqui, opening a space to consider how personal storytelling and moving-image practices can challenge dominant narratives surrounding reproduction, kinship, and parenthood.
The session will conclude with a participatory collage workshop exercise using writing prompts and visual storytelling techniques. Participants of all genders and sexual orientations are invited to reflect on, imagine, and begin documenting reproductive futures from Latinx, queer, and diasporic perspectives.
