About this Event
Join multi-instrumentalist David Renaud and an exceptional lineup of musicians for a captivating, two-part musical journey that balances deep storytelling with fearless, groove-heavy improvisation.
Set 1: A Brief History of Jazz
David brings his popular, immersive exploration of jazz history to the intimate stage of The ROBO Lounge. Featuring the full quartet, this set uses rich narratives and foundational melodies to bring the stories behind the music to life. Travel through time across the landscapes of jazz—from its fiery New Orleans origins and the elegance of swing to the complex heights of bebop, cool jazz, and modern fusion.
Set 2: The Acoustic Pure-Rhythm Trio Experiments
For the second half of the evening, the lineup reduces to combos of a trio without chordal support to leave transparency and maximize conversation. Shifting fluidly between woodwinds, tuba, drums, and melodic guitar lines, this minimalist approach strips away the traditional harmonic net to lay bare the true essence of live, reactive improvisation.
The Musicians:
David Renaud – Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, and Saxophones
Keith Walton – Tuba
Craig Kennedy – Guitar
Mark Rehder – Drums
Don't miss this unique double-bill experience that is equal parts educational, nostalgic, and radically modern. Secure your tickets early, grab a drink at the bar, and settle in for an unforgettable night of live music!
