about the artists:
David Lord:
“David Lord is a six-string anomaly, a genuine diamond in the rough. Over time is his search and discovery missions with his chosen instrument, he has cultivated a wholly unique vocabulary that is devoid of any direct influences. What the guitarist presents is so delightfully weird and wonderful, so refreshingly original that it stands as his own personal manifesto for an alternative six-string expression” - Bill Milkowski
Lord has recorded and performed with Chad Taylor, Jeff Parker, Devra Hoff, Billy Mohler, Charles Rumback, Dave Easley, Jason Stein, Mai Sugimoto, John Tate, James Singleton, Mark Feldman, Russ Johnson and Ethan Philion. He has released music on BIG EGO Records, Astral Spirits and Cloud Ear.
Eli Winter:
Eli Winter is a composer, self-taught guitarist, essayist, and Houston native. His music synthesizes aspects of folk, rock, jazz, and devotional music, maintaining a waggish disregard for genre constraints emblematic of Chicago, his adopted hometown. Across six LPs and counting for labels like Three Lobed and American Dreams, the scope of his music has grown from guitar soli to include instrumental duets and bandleading. He’s collaborated with a wide range of artists live and on record, including Yasmin Williams, Quadeca, Danny Brown, jaimie branch, Caroline Rose, David Grubbs, Cameron Knowler, Asher White and Ryley Walker, and leads a trio featuring Chicago musicians Sam Wagster (pedal steel guitar) and Tyler Damon (drums). His concert history spans prestigious music festivals like Primavera Sound and Big Ears, pristine listening rooms, museums, university chapels, laundromat bars, and small rooms in shotgun houses. In music and prose, Winter’s writing often considers subjects including memory, grief, endurance, literature, and trauma. He’s written about touring, literature, illness, and the lives of working artists for the Los Angeles Review of Books, The Economist, and others, and has often written liner notes for the American Dreams label. He was a 2025 Ucross Fellow in Music Composition and 2021 Luminarts Fellow in Creative Writing, was in residence at Ox-Bow in 2024 and Ragdale in 2022, and received the David Blair McLaughlin Prize in Nonfiction from the University of Chicago.
Mike Baggetta:
Mike’s singular and very personal musical style seeks to blur the lines between song and solo, while connecting a wide range of musical genres that influence him. The press says this approach is “…beguilingly atmospheric…” (Time Out New York) and that “Baggetta’s music is quietly transgressive… Even when he plays a lot of notes, his playing can sound almost static, as though ideas were being snagged out of thin air.” (Hartford Courant)Baggetta’s most recent release is the album ‘Everywhen We Go’, his second album with drummer Jim Keltner and bassist Mike Watt on the BIG EGO label. He also leads the bands Casa Sueño, a new project with John Herndon and Mike Watt, as well as mssv, a post-genre power trio featuring the iconoclastic rhythm team of drummer Stephen Hodges and bassist Mike Watt. They have just released their 4th studio album ‘See You Through’ on BIG EGO Records, and have toured extensively in the US, UK and Ireland over the past several years. mssv has also released a live album on Striped Light Records (with special guest J Mascis), as well as 3 limited edition 7” releases featuring guest artists Petra Haden and Nels Cline. This band grew out of Baggetta’s first album for BIG EGO, ‘Wall of Flowers’, which featured a reimagining of his music alongside bassist Mike Watt and drummer Jim Keltner. Aside from mssv, Baggetta has had the pleasure to work all over the world with a wide range of visionary musicians across many generations including David Torn, Jim Keltner, Mike Watt, Nels Cline, Psychic Temple, Jeff Coffin, Bernard Purdie, Henry Kaiser, Petra Haden, Steve Gigante, Rev. Fred Lane, Donny McCaslin, Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society, Joseph C. Philips’ Numinous, Imani Uzuri, Viktor Krauss, David Wax Museum, Julian Lage, Jon Irabagon, Jerome Harris, Tom Harrell, Eivind Opsvik, Jeremy Udden, and Ruth Brown among many others.
