“Conductor, trombonist, arranger, and composer Dave Eshelman has become one of the foremost champions of creative and modern big band music in the United States” — All Music Guide
Trombonist and composer Dave Eshelman’s Jazz Garden Big Band performs its 1982 debut album, The Jazz Garden, in its entirety — in an evening of virtuosic improvisation nestled in driving, colorful, and creative big band arrangements.
Described in DownBeat magazine as “a substantive composer and an even better arranger,” Eshelman creates cinematic modern jazz soundscapes that stand the test of time.
The Jazz Garden Big Band features some of the most in-demand musicians in the Bay Area. In the four decades since it was formed, the band has performed in dozens of Bay Area jazz clubs, concert halls, and festivals, backing guest artists such as Mel Torme, Joe Henderson, and Bruce Forman.
The ensemble has released four critically acclaimed recordings, including The Jazz Garden (1982), Deep Voices (1988), When Dreams Come True (1993), Temperature Rising (1998), and Milagro’s Journey (2001).
