This is an important meeting for the proposed Nixon data center campus on hwy 56, and for future data centers! It would be great if we could pack the room! 3:00 is an inconvenient time for a weekday, and even if you cant be on time you can still come!!
Below are important agenda items and how they relate to proposed or future data centers in Richmond County:
1. ZA-263: Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance Rewrite
• What this is: Major update to Augusta's zoning laws, affecting land use and development countywide.
• Why this matters: Could change where future data centers are permitted, what restrictions apply, and how nearby neighborhoods are protected. Changes to industrial zoning could also affect future data center development throughout Augusta.
2. Z-26-18: Nixon Property Rezoning
• What this is: Request to rezone approximately 383 acres near Mike Padgett Highway and Four H Club Road to Heavy Industrial (HI).
• Why this matters: The proposed Nixon data center site is not currently zoned entirely for heavy industrial use. Approval would establish HI zoning across the property, an important step toward developing the proposed data center.
3. SE-26-22: Proposed Nixon Data Center
• What this is: Request for a special exception to establish a data center on the same 383-acre property.
• Why this matters: This is the specific request for permission to establish the Nixon data center. The Planning Commission will consider whether the proposed development meets applicable requirements and conditions.
