Christmas isn't always the most wonderful time of the year.
Four sisters are summoned to their father's isolated country home for Christmas after receiving a mysterious letter claiming that their stepmother may have been murdered. But what begins as an uncomfortable family reunion quickly turns sinister when the sisters discover that their father has escaped from a mental institution and may be coming home for the holidays.
As a snowstorm cuts the family off from the outside world, tensions rise and long-buried family secrets begin to emerge. Then someone starts killing the guests one by one. With no way to escape and a killer somewhere on the property, Christmas becomes a fight for survival.
Originally made as a television movie, Home for the Holidays is a wonderfully creepy example of early-1970s made-for-TV horror. With its isolated mansion, snowy setting, dysfunctional family, mysterious killer, and distinctly unsettling Christmas atmosphere, it plays like a sinister combination of a holiday movie and a classic locked-room murder mystery.
If you enjoy Christmas horror, snowbound mysteries, creepy old houses, family secrets, and vintage made-for-TV thrillers, join us for a very different kind of holiday gathering.
