Francis Ford Coppola's feature-film directorial debut, Dementia 13 is a moody and sinister Gothic mystery packed with family secrets, murder, and an old Irish castle.
After the sudden death of her wealthy husband, Louise Haloran concocts a scheme to conceal his death and secure her place in the family inheritance. But when she arrives at the isolated Haloran estate in Ireland, she discovers that the family is already haunted by the mysterious death of a young daughter years earlier. As strange events unfold and bodies begin piling up, Louise finds herself caught in a deadly web of secrets surrounding the family; and someone is determined to keep those secrets buried.
Filmed on a shoestring budget and made with a distinctly eerie atmosphere, Dementia 13 combines Gothic horror, murder mystery, and psychological suspense. With its crumbling castle, dark family history, sinister atmosphere, and increasingly bizarre revelations, it's a fascinating early glimpse at the filmmaker who would go on to direct The Godfather and Apocalypse Now.
If you enjoy Gothic mysteries, haunted family secrets, old castles, and 1960s cult horror, Dementia 13 is a wonderfully atmospheric slice of vintage horror.
