A hands on writing workshop exploring how to use grief, trauma, and taboo subjects in comedy. Get genuine (not awkward or pity) laughs without losing the room. We'll break down the mechanics comedians use to make devastating material land (displacement, escalation, absurd substitution, and tonal control) with examples from some of the best in the game.
Then you'll write your own dark material using guided prompts, with time to share and get feedback.
Led by Belinda Filippelli, whose debut solo show The Heart Mind C*nt Connection tackles suicide, grief, deep family disfunction, and survival through comedy. Catch the show Friday night, then come build your own dark material at this workshop Saturday.
