Take a journey back 500 years in time to the Aztec empire. Mitotianis or dancers sway large feathers and jump to the beat of large huehuet standing drums. The atecocoli conch shell calls to the four directions and dancers caress mother earth to ask permission to dance. Each dance is a story about nature: Iztacuatli, a bald eagle finding her mate; Tonatiuh, the Sun blessing the earth with his rays; Xocitlquetzal, flowers that decorate the skirt of serpents. The audience is invited at the end to participate. Shake a rattle with the ayoyote seeds and become a part of the Ritual Azteca. All ages.
Also on Saturday, Oct. 10: Danza Azteca Huitzilopochtli Storytelling @ Murray Scholls, 1-1:45 PM.
