~Dancing Joints & Shadow Work~
This is a workshop in the detailed techniques of a compassionate and powerful form of bodywork called Movement Shiatsu.
One of the basic principles of East-Asian medicine is that disease and injury are often caused by a part of the person that is not active, a shadow player in the body-mind.
In this workshop we will go into detail about how to work with three aspects of this principle:
– Activating Integrity Muscles. These muscles hold joints together and create a sense of physical integrity and connectedness. If they are not active then other muscles have secure the joint but in the process, restrict movement because their normal job is to move the body rather than hold it together. This causes pain, stiffness and stress. We will show techniques for re-activating these Integrity Muscles in bodywork and in exercises to be taught to the client.
– Joining the Dance: There are often parts of the body that are passive within a person’s movements. This can be because of habits developed unconsciously in the process of growing up or because trauma has been locked away by numbing a part of the body or keeping it immobile. We will show detailed bodywork techniques for helping these habitually passive parts to join the dance and contribute their energy to the whole.
– Bringing the Shadow into the Light. This principle can also be applied to working with behaviour and personality. We will show how to experiment with posture, movement and voice to bring buried parts of the self to the surface. These explorations are profound but accessible and help people to feel in control of their lives and relationships rather than being a victim of their traumas.
They will also be presenting a workshop on Working with Life Issues through the Body on Feb 26th – Feb 28th, 2027 (discount available for enrolment in both workshops)
