About this Event
Sometimes, a new beginning finds us in the most unexpected places.
For Mark, life has slowly grown quiet. Once defined by the roar of the footy field, he now carries the weight of a life that didn’t turn out the way he imagined. The game is long behind him, family feels distant, and the world has become smaller.
Then, on an ordinary afternoon, he hears the beat of a drum.
A chance encounter with a Chinese dragon dancing team draws Mark into a world unlike his own — filled with colour, movement, laughter and people who welcome him without asking him to become someone else.
And somewhere between the rhythm of the drums and the movement of the dragon, something begins to shift.
Dancing Dragon is a heartfelt South Australian-made short film about the unexpected places where we find belonging, the people who help us find our way back, and the quiet courage it takes to begin again.
Created by Adelaide filmmakers, the film brings together two seemingly different worlds — Australian footy culture and Chinese dragon dancing — in a story of identity, masculinity, friendship and multicultural Australia.
More than a year in the making, Dancing Dragon was brought to life by a passionate South Australian cast and crew, alongside dragon and lion dancers, cultural volunteers and community supporters.
What to expect
Be among the first audiences to experience Dancing Dragon on the big screen, followed by a special behind-the-scenes look at how the film was made and an opportunity to hear from the filmmakers behind the project.
This premiere is also a rare opportunity to bring together the cast, crew and talent who made Dancing Dragon possible. We’ll be inviting everyone who played a part in bringing the film to life to join us in celebrating its journey — giving you the chance to meet the people both in front of and behind the camera.
Whether you love independent cinema, South Australian stories, Chinese culture, or simply a story that reminds us it is never too late to find our way back — we’d love to welcome you.
Lost at life, never lost to life.
