Join Bury STEPS for a rewarding countryside adventure linking the peaceful beauty of Daisy Nook Country Park with one of Greater Manchester's most iconic viewpoints, Hartshead Pike.
Starting beside the gentle waters of the River Medlock, this varied route follows attractive woodland paths and valley trails before gradually climbing beyond the shelter of the country park. As the landscape opens up, you'll make your way through a mixture of country lanes, farm tracks, and open countryside towards the distinctive tower standing proudly atop Hartshead Pike.
The steady ascent is well worth the effort. From the summit, walkers are rewarded with spectacular panoramic views across Ashton-under-Lyne, Oldham, Tameside, and towards the distant Pennine hills. On a clear day, the scenery stretches for miles, making this one of the finest viewpoints in Greater Manchester.
The route combines a variety of surfaces including paved paths, quiet lanes, grassy field edges, and natural tracks. Some sections across farmland require a little attention to navigation, while lower ground can become muddy after wet weather. Suitable footwear is strongly recommended.
Expect a friendly pace, great company, beautiful scenery, and plenty of opportunities to pause and take in the views along the way.
