Explore the beautiful world of cyanotype, a historic photographic printing process dating back to the mid 1800s that produces stunning, deep blue images using UV light. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how light, objects, and printed negatives interact to create unique, ethereal prints on paper and, finally, fabric.
You’ll start by practicing on paper, learning the fundamentals of cyanotype, including selecting and arranging objects, working with printed negatives, and understanding how exposure and light affect your results. Once you’re confident with the technique, you’ll move on to fabric, discovering which textiles work best and how to achieve crisp, vibrant designs.
Throughout the session, you’ll experiment with composition and layering, combining natural elements, printed materials, and your own creative touches to produce one-of-a-kind fabric pieces. By the end, you’ll have a strong understanding of cyanotype and a collection of beautiful prints to take home.
