MEETING POINT is at the CWGC Commonwealth Cemetery. This is the cemetery with the white Cross of Sacrifice which is adjacent to, and can be seen from Camp Road.
Following the recent official opening of the newly refurbished building and exhibition at the German Military cemetery we are pleased to offer tours at Cannock Chase.
Cannock Chase played a vital role in the First World War. Come and discover the history through those that CWGC commemorates there. In the neighbouring site are the graves of almost 5,000 German and Austrian casualties from both World Wars. Discover the stories of some of them. Taking in a range of different War Graves and Memorials you'll find out more about the CWGC's work both locally and internationally.
The tours last approx. 90 mins and covers about 1200 metres on paths and grass with uneven ground.
Free parking is available next to the Commonwealth Cemetery and addition parking is available up the lane at the German Cemetery.
There are no on site facilities but toilets are available on site.
Please come dressed for the weather and in suitable footwear. Please bring water if required.
Well behaved dogs on a lead are welcome in the cemetery.
Please note there can be last minute cancellations. This can be due to various reasons including illness, site issues and weather. We will email you as soon as we can, but this could include the morning of the tour, so please check your emails prior to leaving for the tour.
The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF) aims to actively engage all communities with the work of the CWGC by telling the inspiring stories through education and outreach projects.
The CWGF is an independent charity registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales (1171947) and Scotland (SC051982).
