61st Annual Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup & Arts FestivalFriday, September 25, 2026 | Buffalo Roundup begins at 9:30 a.m. (MT)
Feel the ground rumble and experience one of the greatest wildlife spectacles in North America!
Join us at Custer State Park as cowboys, cowgirls, and park staff guide approximately 1,300 bison across the prairie during the annual Buffalo Roundup. More than an unforgettable tradition, this event is an important wildlife management effort that helps maintain a healthy and sustainable bison herd.
Parking areas open at 6:15 a.m., and we encourage guests to arrive early to claim a viewing spot. After the herd is safely in the corrals, stick around to watch the afternoon branding, sorting, and health checks beginning around 1:00 p.m.
Make a weekend of it by exploring the Buffalo Roundup Arts Festival (September 24–26), featuring over 150 artists and craft vendors, delicious food, live Western and Native American entertainment, and fun for the whole family.
What to bring:
• Folding chairs
• Binoculars and cameras
• Layered clothing
• Rain gear and sunscreen
Admission to the Roundup is free with a valid park entrance license.
Come witness a South Dakota tradition unlike any other and make your history in Custer State Park. We can't wait to see you on September 25!
