An immersion day of water magick in ancient Cornwall: Ritual, divination, energy, folk practice and the magick of river, well and sea
Water has always held an important place in magick.
People have visited holy wells for healing and blessing, left offerings at springs, used water to cleanse and consecrate, read signs in its surface and worked with rain, rivers and tides for all manner of practical magick.
Current & Tide is an invitation to step into that practice for a day.
Gathering Around The Water Altar
We'll begin around a water altar, opening the space together and creating the first of the workings that we'll build on as the day unfolds. Water will be poured, blessed, charged and combined with herbs and other materia, becoming part of spells, offerings and ritual that we'll make together around the table.
From there, we'll take our practice out to the Looe River.
We'll sit beside the water and work with the current itself, listening, journeying and making offerings before walking down towards the tidal water and the meeting of river and sea. We'll pay attention to how the water moves and changes, and work with what is actually present rather than treating the landscape as a backdrop to our magick.
We'll bring water and experience back with us to the altar, where the work can deepen.
Working With Living Water
Some of the magick we create will draw on water's ability to receive and carry energy and intention. We'll make ritual waters and washes, work with herbs, use moving water within spellcraft and work with the different qualities of rain, river, spring, storm and sea water.
Beneath the Surface
We'll also go beneath the surface.
Water has a long relationship with divination, dreams, emotion, intuition and the unconscious. We'll work with those deeper waters through scrying, journeying and ritual, allowing the surface of water to become a threshold into intuitive and imaginal experience. Its relationship with the moon will enter the work too, through lunar waters, cycles and the very real pull that moves the tides around us.
Cornwall has its own deep traditions of water magick. Holy wells and sacred springs are scattered through the landscape, carrying histories of healing, petition, divination and offering, while the sea has shaped Cornish folklore and practice for generations. We'll draw on some of those traditions as we create our own workings, alongside practices that have become part of my own work over the years.
A Day of Magick in the Making
As the day progresses, the altar will evolve as we add what we've made, gathered and worked with. Rather than a series of separate exercises, we'll be building a body of magick together, moving between altar, river and tide and allowing each part of the day to feed what comes next.
Some workings will be completed within the circle. Some will be offered or returned to the water. Others will leave with you, ready to be used or tended as part of your own practice at home.
We'll work with:
- water as a conduit and amplifier of energy
- charging and consecrating water for ritual and spellcraft
- river, sea, rain, storm, spring and well water in magick
- currents and tides in practical spellcraft
- water, the moon and lunar cycles
- emotion, intuition and the unconscious
- scrying and water divination
- cleansing, blessing and ritual bathing
- Cornish holy wells and sacred water traditions
- offerings and reciprocity with living water
- herbs, salt and other materia used in water magick
- journeying beside the river
- water-based rituals from my own living practice
There'll be time at the river's edge, time around the working table and time to become absorbed in what you're making. You'll get your hands into the work, make magick you can take home with you and have space to follow what the water itself brings into the day.
Expect wet hands and muddy boots, the smell of herbs and river air, the sound of moving water during a journey, reflections shifting in a scrying bowl and the change in atmosphere as we leave the river and walk towards the tide.
Practical Details
A comprehensive digital manual will be sent after the immersion day to support your continuing practice and integration.
The day involves experiential and reflective work within a carefully held group setting, so some capacity for self-awareness and emotional regulation is important.
