Experience Majestic Figures: Contemporary Sculptures by Native American Artists from a curator’s perspective during a special talk led by Heard Museum Curator Roshii Montaño (Diné).Majestic Figures celebrates a gift of 23 contemporary sculptures to the Heard Museum from Charles and Valerie Diker. The exhibition features works by five master artists: Rhonda Holy Bear, Jamie Okuma and three generations of the Growing Thunder family — Joyce Growing Thunder, Juanita Growing Thunder Fogarty and Jessa Rae Growing Thunder, Ph.D.
The artists are not only accomplished creators but also researchers, historians and knowledge keepers of regalia practices, construction and design. Some works take years to create, reflecting decades of preparation and knowledge.
