Introduction to Archery: Cupar Bowmen Beginners Course (Course 4)
Ever wanted to try your hand at archery? Whether you’re looking for a unique new hobby, a way to test your focus, or simply want to join a friendly local community, the Cupar Bowmen Beginners Course is the perfect place to start.
Our beginners' courses are the perfect way for novices to join the club, learn the basics of archery, and meet fellow archery enthusiasts. We provide all the necessary equipment, a safe environment, and expert guidance to take you from your very first draw to shooting with confidence.

How It Works
Our introductory package is split into two phases to give you the best possible experience and a true taste of club life:
- Phase 1: The Core Lessons (First 3 Sessions) Over your first three Tuesday night sessions, you will learn the fundamentals of the sport. We will cover the basics of correct shooting technique, how to handle club equipment safely, and essential range safety protocols so you can shoot with absolute confidence.
- Phase 2: Club Integration (Next 2 Sessions) Your journey doesn't end after the basics! Your course fee includes an additional two regular club sessions on our usual Tuesday nights. This gives you the perfect opportunity to practice your new skills alongside current members, get a true feel for the club’s atmosphere, and decide if you'd like to officially join Cupar Bowmen.
What’s Included?
- 5 total Tuesday sessions (3 instructional classes + 2 regular club sessions).
- Full equipment hire (bows, arrows, and safety gear).
- Insurance cover for the duration of the course.
- Hands-on coaching and guidance from experienced club members.
Age Policy & Junior Supervision
We welcome younger archers to the club! Children are more than welcome to be booked onto the course and participate fully, but they must be accompanied by a responsible adult. An adult must remain present in the sports hall for the entire duration of every session.
What to Wear & Bring
- Clothing: Please wear comfortable, relatively close-fitting clothing (baggy jackets or loose sleeves can interfere with the bowstring).
- Footwear: Flat, enclosed shoes or trainers are mandatory for safety on the range (no sandals or open-toed shoes).
- Safety: Long hair should be tied back, and dangling jewelry or facial piercings should ideally be removed or taped before shooting.
Cancellations & Refunds
Because spaces on our beginners' courses are strictly limited and require us to allocate dedicated club equipment and coaches, we operate the following policy:
- Refund Requests: You may request a refund for the cost of your ticket up to 7 days before the start of the first session (by 27th October 2026). Please note that Eventbrite’s non-refundable booking and service fees are not included in any refunds issued. After this 7-day window, we are unfortunately unable to offer a refund, as it doesn't leave us enough time to offer the spot to someone on our waiting list.
- Missed Sessions: The course is designed to build your skills sequentially, especially during the first 3 core sessions. If you know in advance that you have to miss a specific Tuesday, please let us know as soon as possible so our coaches can adapt. We cannot offer partial refunds or make-up dates for individual missed sessions.
- Club Cancellations: In the rare event that the club has to cancel a session due to unforeseen venue closures at the Cupar Sports Centre, we will notify you as early as possible and arrange an alternative date to ensure you still get your full 5 sessions.

Beginner’s Course Terms & Conditions:
Please read carefully before applying:
- Payment: Courses must be paid in full through Eventbrite before the commencement date. We cannot accept cash payments on the evening.
- Refund Policy: Refund requests can be processed automatically through Eventbrite up to 7 days before the course start date. Please note that only the course fee is refundable; Eventbrite’s structural booking and processing fees are completely non-refundable.
- Age Limits: Children under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all sessions.
- Safety & Piercings: For safety reasons, no chin, lip, or nose piercings may be worn during shooting.
- Clothing & Footwear: All attendees must wear close-fitting clothing and completely closed-toe footwear (i.e., no sandals or crocs). Long hair must be tied back securely.
- Equipment: All necessary archery equipment is provided by the club. Please do not bring or use your own equipment.
- Medical Conditions: Any medical conditions or physical needs that we should be aware of must be discussed with us before booking to ensure we can safely accommodate you.
- Conduct: Participants are expected to obey club rules and safety guidelines at all times, treating the facilities and equipment with respect. Cupar Bowmen reserves the right to exclude anyone from the course who persistently disobeys safety instructions or the Rules of Shooting.
- Attendee Information: For insurance and registration purposes, a valid name, email address, and contact telephone number must be provided for every individual attendee.
- Liability: Cupar Bowmen cannot accept any responsibility for loss, damage, or injury to any person, vehicle, or personal possessions.
- Club Membership: Attending a beginner’s course does not automatically entitle you to ongoing club membership. At the end of the 5 weeks, the club may invite you to join, at which point you would also register as a member of Archery GB. Full details on club and Archery GB fees will be provided at the end of the course.
All coaching and shooting activities are conducted strictly in accordance with Archery GB rules, regulations, and best practices. Cupar Bowmen is fully affiliated with Archery GB and Scottish Archery.
