Who chooses the pictures on a book cover? And how do those images make their way from an idea to a finished book?At our next CultureHaus, printmaker and educator Cecilia Mackay will take us behind the scenes of her other creative life: picture editing in book publishing.
Cecilia has worked with leading publishers including Penguin Books, Pan Macmillan, HarperCollins and Simon & Schuster for more than 30 years. From finding fine art for Penguin Classics covers in the 1990s to working on more than 2,000 books, she’s collaborated with household names across politics, broadcasting, history, art, comedy, sport and reality TV.
Join us to hear how picture editors find and select images, work with authors, editors and designers, navigate copyright, and bring words and pictures together. Cecilia will share how she found her way into this little-known career, what it’s like working with high-profile artists and photographers, and how images can shape a book’s story and message.
After this talk, you may never judge a book cover in quite the same way!
