About this Event
Join the WCHS for our first Culture & Cocktails presentation of 2027, "The History of the Hagerstown Town & Country Almanack," presented by WCHS Board Member, Jerry Spessard.
Did you know that Hagerstown is home to the country's second oldest almanac? Opened in 1797 by printer John Gruber, the Town & Country Alamanack has been in continuous print since and is the only almanac still published today by direct descendants of its founder.
Jerry Spessard, the Almanack's Business and Sales Manager since 2002, will present this Culture & Cocktails lecture. Jerry, with family roots in Washington County dating back to 1757 and a keen interest in preserving Washington County's history, will present the history of the almanack and some of its exciting and ongoing features!
Culture & Cocktails is generously sponsored by the James and Mary Schurz Foundation. Doors open at 5:30 PM and the lecture begins at 6:00 PM. Each attendee receives one drink ticket; the evening's cocktail will be announced closer to the event.
