About this Event
This talk explores the life of Colonel Edward M. Mobley (1825-1906), a local Hagerstown resident and Civil War hero.
Join us on Friday, November 13, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 PM, as Justin Mayhue presents "Colonel Edward M. Mobley: Local Civil War Hero." Justin Mayhue is an author, retired battalion chief of the Hagerstown Fire Department, and an active Antietam Battlefield Guide since 2007.
Mayhue's presentation will explore the life of Colonel Edward M. Mobley, described in his 1906 obituary as "one of the oldest and best known residents of Hagerstown." Drawing from primary sources including Colonel Mobley's own diaries from 1862 to 1865, Mayhue will share with us the Civil War experiences of Mobley, who was wounded twice in combat. Mayhue will also present on other aspects of Mobley's life from before and after the Civil War, including his life in Hagerstown during the 19th century.
Culture & Cocktails is generously sponsored by the James & Mary Schurz Foundation. C&C is held on the second Friday of each month from 6:00-8:00 PM. Doors open at 5:30 PM. Refreshments and one complimentary drink ticket are included with each ticket.
