The Necropolis, or Cladh Mòr Ghlaschu, is a symbol of Glasgow at the height of its power as the Second City of the British Empire. Among those buried in the graveyard are engineers, ship builders, inventors – and Gaels. On this tour, you’ll hear the stories of some of the Gaels who came to Glasgow, and the influence they had on the city and on Scotland over the years.
Organised by the Gaelic team at Historic Environment Scotland in partnership with Friends of the Necropolis, this event will include a guided tour delivered in Gaelic. There will be a cuppa and chat afterwards in St Mungos’ Museum of Religious Life, with an opportunity to use your own Gaelic informally with new folk.
This event is entirely in Gaelic, but with vocab sheets available, it’s an opportunity to learn some new words.
This event is free, but donations to the charity Friends of the Necropolis are welcome.
