ctrl LIVE: The KVB [UK]-- [coldwave][shoegaze]
-- Berlin Room
The KVB return to Control on December 12 with a detached, retro-chic electronic pulse that hits like a melancholic sledgehammer.
Combining reverb-soaked production with minimalist electronics, The KVB’s evolving coldwave sound reflects their mastery of atmosphere. Hazy electronic passages meet post-punk in the duo’s carefully constructed musical world.
Their music evokes the stark futurism of Cabaret Voltaire and the noisy romance of The Jesus and Mary Chain. Initially Nicholas Wood’s solo project in 2010, The KVB became a duo when Kat Day joined, and their sound has continued to develop since.
The early albums Always Then and Immaterial Visions gave way to the tighter electronics of Only Now Forever and the retrofuturistic sound of Unity. With the industrial, dystopian pop of 2024’s Tremors, the duo found another way to express the melancholy and tension running through their work.
“The KVB is certainly not the only band that digs in the 80s, but it belongs to the best.” - Peek-a-boo Magazine
