It stars Seymor, a lovelorn, down-on-his-luck floral assistant from Skid Row, and his new discovery Audrey II — a smooth-talking, foul-mouthed plant whose promises of fame, fortune, and fulfillment trick our hapless hero into feeding its evil quest for global domination at an awesome price.
“It resonates more than ever right now — the idea of the Faustian bargain you make for fame and success in a world where people are making a living being TikTok performers and Instagram influencers, and people are famous for being famous more than at any other time in history. It examines the dark side of the American dream, and because it’s so funny and entertaining and moving, it isn’t going to bum you out so much.” - Michael Mayer, director of the 40th anniversary Off-Broadway revival, to The New York Times
