About this Event
Join Us for the CSCE Ontario Region Annual Dinner
The Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) Ontario Region, hosted by the CSCE Toronto Section, is pleased to invite members, Fellows, Life Members, friends, and companions to the 2026 Annual Dinner.
Now in its third consecutive year since the event was revived in 2024, the Annual Dinner continues a longstanding CSCE tradition of bringing members of the civil engineering community together for an evening of good food, conversation, professional insight, and fellowship.
This year’s dinner will explore one of the most important topics shaping the future of the profession: artificial intelligence in civil engineering.
Through two complementary presentations, attendees will hear both a broader perspective on the rapidly evolving AI landscape and a closer look at how AI is beginning to be applied within engineering practice today. The evening will explore what AI is, where it is creating value, the challenges and limitations that remain, and the questions engineering professionals should be considering as these technologies continue to develop.
Join us on October 17, 2026, at Verace Italian Restaurant in Oakville for an evening of connection, discussion, and celebration with members of the civil engineering community.
We thank SIDIAN for sponsoring this dinner.
AI: What’s Real, What Matters
AI is not one technology, but a rapidly evolving landscape of models, systems, and applications.
Dan Wright, Founder of Anchoria, will separate what is real from the hype, explore the opportunities and concerns surrounding artificial intelligence, and discuss the questions we should be asking about where the technology is taking us.
His presentation will provide a broader look at the AI landscape, including the different types of AI systems being developed and the opportunities, risks, and wider implications of their growing use.
AI in Civil Engineering: From Potential to Practice
Artificial intelligence is beginning to change how civil engineering work is delivered, but successful adoption requires more than new technology.
In this presentation, James Hinsperger, CEO of Sidian, will explore practical, real-world applications of AI in civil engineering, focusing on reliability, data management, security, and integration with existing engineering workflows.
Through concrete examples, it will highlight where AI can create value today, where limitations remain, and key considerations for engineering firms adopting these tools.
About the Evening
The Annual Dinner is an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, meet members from across the Ontario Region, exchange ideas, and celebrate the civil engineering profession in a relaxed setting.
Whether you are a Fellow, Life Member, practising professional, young professional, student, or friend of CSCE, we look forward to welcoming you for an evening of conversation, learning, and fellowship.
