About this Event
WHO WE ARE
CRUX Climbing is dedicated to expanding access to the sport of rock climbing and outdoor recreation for LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual) communities in the NY-metropolitan area.
Outside of the LGBTQIA community and want to support CRUX? Your financial and volunteer support go a long way towards CRUX's advocacy for LGBTQIA access to the sport. This allows us to hold safe and affirming spaces for LGBTQIA participants at our events. Email [email protected] to get involved!
This event is being offered in partnership with our friends at Rise Outside Collective and will be led by certified guides.
TRIP OVERVIEW
The Peter's K*ll Climbing Area (also written "Peterskill") is part of the Minnewaska State Park Preserve on the Shawangunk Mountain ridge. Like the nearby Mohonk Preserve, the rock in Peterskill is quartzite conglomerate. Unlike the Mohonk Preserve, all of the routes are a single pitch and range in length from 40 feet to about 90 feet.
WHAT GRADES SHOULD I EXPECT?
Routes in Peterskill range from under 5.6 to just a few over 5.12. Just over half of all the top-rope-friendly routes are in the range of 5.7 to 5.9.
TRANSPORTATION
Participants are responsible for their own transportation. Once the event fills, everyone will be connected via email and WhatsApp chat to facilitate carpooling. It is also possible to take a Trailways bus to New Paltz, and then a cab or rideshare service from the New Paltz bus station to Peterskill.
FAQ: CAN I JUST SHOW UP?
Please do not show up without being registered. Registration capacity is very limited. If tickets are sold out, please join the wait list.
