This is a creative writing class with a little bit of tarot mixed in.
We’ll each choose an individual tarot card, and I’ll explain what the card represents, its symbolism and the different ways it can be interpreted. Although everyone will have their own card, we’ll also look at the cards together as a collective reading, so there may be some interesting connections between what comes up for each person.
From there, you’ll use your card as inspiration for a creative writing piece. You might write a story based on the character, imagery or energy of your card, or take the meaning of the card and run with it in whatever direction your imagination takes you. Once we’ve finished writing, we’ll take turns reading our stories out loud to the group.
You don’t need to know anything about tarot or be a writer to come along. The idea is simply to use the cards as a creative prompt and see what comes out of it.
A little note about tarot: Tarot can be quite personal and introspective, and sometimes touches on deeper or more confronting parts of ourselves. Some cards or interpretations may bring up things that feel uncomfortable, emotional or unexpected. There’s no expectation to share anything you don’t want to share. You’re always free to interpret your card in whatever way feels right for you.
