The Course – October 2026
Whether you've always wanted to write but don't know where to start, or you've written before and want to develop your skills, this friendly eight-week course will give you practical techniques to generate ideas, build confidence and enjoy writing.
You'll begin by discovering ideas through Word Banks and Free Writing before exploring the fundamentals of effective storytelling, including creating believable characters, developing engaging plots and bringing memorable settings to life.
Through videos, class discussions and a wide range of practical writing activities, you'll discover your own writing voice and, most importantly, spend plenty of time writing.
Throughout the course, you'll receive written feedback on your work, have opportunities to ask questions, and receive individual advice to help you develop your own writing projects.
By the end of the course, you'll have produced a collection of your own writing and, more importantly, the confidence to know that you can write.
David's Background
David has been teaching creative writing for over 20 years. Alongside teaching, he has worked professionally as a copywriter in the motoring industry, helping to produce engaging content for a wide range of audiences. His first young adult novel is due to be self-published later this year.
He has also volunteered with the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), regularly meeting published authors, literary agents and editors. This has given him valuable insight into both the craft of writing and the publishing industry.
David's classes combine practical techniques, constructive feedback and a friendly, supportive atmosphere, helping writers to develop their confidence and enjoy the creative process.
What Do I Need to Bring:
- Notebook/Pad
- Pen/Pencil
Please feel free to purchase a hot drink from the machine during your workshop (card only) we also have a water machine and would be grateful if you could bring your own bottle.
Please note there will be no class on Tuesday 28th October during half term.
