About this Event
Creative Visible Mending Workshop: learn a mending technique and save your clothes from landfill. Lucille Acevedo-Jones, a costume designer maker and sustainability advocate, will lead this workshop in creative mending and free-form embroidery. She is passionate about inspiring people to make sustainable choices and keep their clothes out of landfill. Caring for our clothes is a radical act of resistance. Hand sewing forces you to slow down, to have time to think, reflect, to connect with the rhythm of your own body and to cultivate patience. Hand sewing with others also offers the opportunity to connect with community and perhaps make new friends!
Suitable for anyone, whether you have been sewing for years or are yet to pick up a needle and thread. Bring an item of clothing you would like to mend: there will be an array of tools, materials, sample pieces and books available to inspire you. Lucille will guide and advise you in your choice of mending technique which could include: darning, patching, free form embroidery, sashiko and boro.
