ORNATE FRAME REVIVAL
A Two-Part Mould Workshop at Redesign & Restoration
Bring an old frame. Leave with a little work of art.
Join us at Redesign & Restoration for a two-part creative workshop where we’ll transform an ordinary frame into an ornate, vintage-inspired statement piece using IOD Trimmings Moulds, air-dry clay, paint, and metallic glaze.
Bring a frame from home (up to 16")—something thrifted, forgotten in a closet, or simply ready for a new look. We’ll show you how to give it beautiful architectural character using decorative moulded details.
No previous experience with IOD products is necessary. We’ll walk you through the process from beginning to end.
SESSION ONE — MOULD, CREATE & TRANSFORM
During our first workshop, you’ll prepare your frame for its transformation and learn how to work with IOD Trimmings Moulds and air-dry clay.
We’ll cover how to properly use the moulds, create clean decorative castings using air dry clay, arrange and layer your pieces, and attach them to your frame to create raised architectural details.
Your newly embellished frame will then need time to dry and cure before we add the finishing touches.
SESSION TWO — PAINT, GLAZE & ADORN
Return the following week to finish your piece!
During our second session, we’ll paint the frame and bring all of those beautiful moulded details to life. You’ll learn how to use metallic glaze and decorative finishing techniques to highlight the raised details and give your frame depth, dimension, and an aged, collected appearance.
By the end of the second session, you’ll have a completely transformed frame ready to take home and display.
WHAT TO BRING
Please bring one frame from home that you would like to upcycle. Vintage, thrifted, wood, or previously painted frames are all welcome.
We’ll provide the IOD moulds, clay, paint, metallic finishes, tools, instruction, and other workshop materials needed to complete your project.
FOOD, DRINKS & A LITTLE SOCIALIZING
Because creating is always better with something good to nibble on, food and light beverages will be provided during the workshop.
Wine may be available by request, and guests are also welcome to BYOW — Bring Your Own Wine.
