Join us for Cranksgiving in Downtown Columbia, a fun, FREE community cycling event that combines the joy of biking with the spirit of giving back!On Saturday, November 7, cyclists of all ages and abilities are invited to ride into Downtown Columbia with donations of nonperishable food to benefit Grassroots Crisis Intervention and help local individuals and families in need this holiday season.
Whether you're an avid cyclist, a casual rider, or a family looking for a fun way to give back, Cranksgiving is for you!
Make your own way to Downtown Columbia or join a special guided group ride led by the Howard County Police Department's Community Outreach and Pathways Section. The group ride departs from The Other Barn in Oakland Mills at 10 AM.
Suggested cycling routes from Columbia's villages and other locations throughout Howard County are also available.
Which Columbia Village has the biggest heart? We're inviting Columbia's villages and other interested communities to compete to see who can collect the most food donations! Each participating village will have a designated drop-off table, and we'll announce the winning village at the end of the event. Note that any items delivered by car or vehicle other than bikes will not count towards the winning total.
Bring your neighbors, rally your community, and help your village take home bragging rights!
The first 100 registrants will receive a commemorative Cranksgiving event shirt! Be sure to register by noon on October 31 to qualify.
We're collecting nonperishable food donations for Grassroots Crisis Intervention.
Some of the most-needed items include:
• Canned proteins (tuna, chicken, beans)
• Canned vegetables, fruit, soups, and chili
• Pasta, rice, and cereal
• Peanut butter
• Mac & cheese
• Shelf-stable milk
• Healthy snacks, including granola bars and fruit cups
Every donation makes a difference!
Cranksgiving is about more than cycling. It's an opportunity to explore Howard County's pathways, connect with neighbors, celebrate our community, and make a meaningful difference before Thanksgiving.
