About this Event
On Friday March 11th come experience a night of crankies (stories shared on moving scrolls) by Kathy Fahey & Dan Van Allen with melodies and songs by one of Baltimore's most captivating songwriter Caleb Stine.
Katherine is a storyteller, papercut artist, and puppeteer. She mainly make crankies, a form of visual art performance that involves a box containing a scroll of artwork. The scroll is attached to rods with cranks at the top. As the cranks are turned the scroll moves across the front of the box, where the viewer can see the artwork. Katherin has been recognized for the influence of her early work in helping to revitalize the crankie community and interest in this historical art. Because of this, she have been called the "Jane Appleseed of Crankies" or, in Baltimore, the "Matron Saint of Crankies". She's been invited to teach and perform all over the country. Music on the Square is lucky as can be to have her and her performance partner Dan Van Allen Grace the Church on the Square for a night of tales and stories.
Joining this enchanting duo for the evening is the "lynchpin of the Baltimore folk music scene", Caleb Stine. For many Baltimorean's Caleb's songs are the soundtrack to their life in here in the city. Caleb has collabrated with Kathrine and Dan on many occasions and this upcoming one is bound to another magical aligning of the sounds and storieds by a handful of Baltimore's very best and incredible unique performers.
