Every mid-December, Cousin Andy's has long fete'ed their founding late board member Vern Crawford with his favorite Small Potatoes duo, a birthday party, and his very own holiday Santa Claus appearance with Mrs. Claus. This mid-December, December 11th, from 6:00 - 9:00 pm, we honor and memorialize Vern and his creation of Cousin Andy's Coffee House in a different way. Southern Illinois musician Tom Connelley, another Cousin Andy's founder who has periodically played for us, has just re-released a CD compilation of songs, featuring many musicians who have played at Cousin Andy's over our several decades of listening room concerts. Cousin Andy's Home Brewed, to go along with that bottomless cup of coffee at our concerts, or with your own home brewed at home or on the road.
The memorial and 2026 CD re-release concert, featuring around ten local and regional acts, will be at our earlier Church of the Good Shepherd venue, on the corner of Orchard and Schwartz Streets in Carbondale, IL. Parking is along the street or driveway. Doors open 5:30 pm; music at 6:00 - 9:00 pm.
The Cousin Andy's Home Brewed CD will be available, for sale, at the concert, and at local businesses including Plaza Records, Mike's Music, and of course the Neighborhood Coop, where Vern used to bake bread and more recently appear as Santa Claus each mid-December. The CD can be streamed on most music streaming platforms. Eventually, the CD will be available for purchase and download on Bandcamp.com.
Suggested donation for the concert is $15, or whatever you would like to give.
A bottomless cup of coffee, tea or cookies are available for $1.
All donations at the door and CD sales will go toward the Vern Crawford Songwriter Scholarship to assist local songwriters in attending the Winter Songwriter Retreat at Touch of Nature just south of Carbondale this coming February. The retreat is organized by Poss Music Works which will be a member of the committee of local musicians who will make the Songwriter Scholarship awards. For complete information regarding the Songwriter Retreat awards contact Tom Connelley at WDBX or email at [email protected].
