About this Event

UAF Journalism alumnus Nate Raymond has spent 20 years reporting on courts, judges, lawyers and high-stakes litigation.  As a reporter for Reuters, he was part of the team that won this year’s Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting for their stories that detailed threats judges and their families faced after ruling against President Trump’s administration. He returns to Alaska to share tales from his years of reporting and how the legal news beat has changed amid an evolving judicial and media landscape.

Free and open to all, this program can be attended on campus or streamed live via Zoom.

This event is sponsored by the UAF Department of Science & Environmental Journalism. This lecture is made possible by an endowment from the late Helen Snedden, in honor of her husband, former Fairbanks Daily News-Miner publisher C.W. Snedden.

About Nate Raymond

Nate Raymond grew up in Homer, Alaska, and graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2007 with a B.A. in journalism and political science. He worked as a reporter at The American Lawyer and its affiliate publications including the New York Law Journal from 2007 to 2012, at which point he joined Reuters, where he has focused on covering major criminal and civil litigation and the federal judiciary. He lives outside of Boston with his wife and two children.

About the Snedden Speaker Series:The Snedden Speaker Series is made possible through the generosity of Helen Snedden, who endowed a chair of journalism at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in honor of her late husband, Charles Willis "Bill" Snedden. Bill, a visionary journalist and former owner of the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, built his life around telling great stories and nurturing a vibrant press in the Interior. Helen established the Snedden Endowed Chair of Journalism to continue Bill’s legacy of educating and mentoring young journalists. The series has featured some of the nation’s most distinguished reporters, including 11 Pulitzer Prize winners, providing an invaluable opportunity for UAF students to learn from the best in the field.
