About this Event

Why this course matters

In humanitarian crises, good intentions are not enough. We need to act ethically, effectively, and in line with international standards.

This interactive two-day workshop introduces essential frameworks, practical tools, and ethical principles that guide humanitarian action around the world. Together, we explore how global standards — such as those in the Sphere Handbook (2018) — can improve decisions and outcomes for people affected by crises.

What you'll learn

By the end of the course, we will:

  • Understand core humanitarian principles like dignity, accountability, and impartiality
  • Explore the structure and purpose of Sphere and CHS standards
  • Apply protection principles and assessment tools to guide ethical decisions
  • Practice technical response in WASH or food security scenarios
  • Reflect on our role in crisis response — locally and globally

This is a practice-based course with real-world examples and peer learning.

Who this course is for

Ideal for anyone who wants to understand how humanitarian response works in practice:

  • Students exploring careers in crisis response
  • Mid-career professionals seeking meaningful engagement
  • Community volunteers, educators, and team leads
  • Anyone preparing to support affected communities, near or far

No prior experience needed. Bring curiosity and a willingness to learn.

Why learn with us

At Vector Volunteer Services, we build capacity for principled humanitarian action. Our facilitators bring real-world field experience, and our sessions are grounded in practice, not just theory.

We use globally recognised tools like the Sphere Standards to build understanding — not bureaucracy.
