Mass violence can happen with little warning—but preparation can make a difference.
Our goal is not to live in fear. It is to recognize warning signs, make sound decisions, and know what to do when seconds matter.
Know. Prepare. Act.
• Stay aware — Pay attention to unusual behavior, threats, escalating conflicts, or situations that don’t feel right.
• Trust your instincts — If something seems wrong, don’t ignore it. Create distance and move toward safety.
• Know your environment — Whether you’re at work, church, school, a business, or an event, be aware of exits and safe areas.
• Have a plan — Talk with your family, coworkers, congregation, or organization about emergency procedures before an emergency happens.
• Report concerning behavior — Don’t assume someone else will speak up. Report credible threats or dangerous behavior to the appropriate authorities.
• During an attack: RUN, HIDE, FIGHT — If an immediate threat occurs, prioritize getting away from danger. If escape isn’t possible, seek secure shelter. As a last resort, be prepared to protect yourself and others from an imminent threat.
Preparedness isn’t paranoia. It’s responsibility.
The best response to violence begins long before violence occurs—with awareness, communication, preparation, and a commitment to protecting one another.
Be aware. Be prepared. Protect life.
