Paul Hutchinson (Belshazzar’s Feast) Karen Wimhurst (Welsh National Opera, Grimethorpe Colliery Band, jazz) & Anna Tam (Mediaeval Baebes) blend traditional music & song in enthralling alchemy with elements from Early Music, classical & jazz. They sing & play accordion, clarinet, nyckelharpa, hurdy gurdy, cello & viola da gamba.
The workshop will explore places where Early Music & traditional music intertwine.
The1st Edition of Playford’s Dancing Master published in 1651 was one of the first manuscripts to draw on tunes from the oral folk tradition and capture them in print. We will take some of these tunes and together explore how we can bring them alive today in a folk ensemble setting. Some music will be sent out in advance.
