About this Event
The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu and the Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (SFCA) invite you to join us at Capitol Modern: Hawaiʻi State Art Museum on October 17, 2026, for a special cooking demonstration featuring Mama Sita’s Clara Lapus and Rachel Lapus, with special participation by Chef Kealoha Domingo, as part of this year’s Filipino American History Month celebrations.
This year’s Filipino Food Week theme is “Suka” (Vinegar)—a celebration of one of the most distinctive and beloved ingredients in Filipino cuisine. During this lively demonstration, Clara and Rachel will showcase flavorful Filipino dishes that highlight the versatility of “suka”, or Philippine vinegar, from its bright acidity and depth of flavor to its essential role in traditional Filipino cooking.
The program brings together culinary traditions and contemporary perspectives while celebrating the deep connections between food, culture, family, and community.
Come discover the stories, techniques, and flavors behind these vinegar-forward dishes, and experience the richness of Filipino culinary heritage through the distinctive taste of “suka”.
