CONVERSATION AND SOUP - TIMELOOP - WHERE DO WE STORE OUR DATA?New data centres are being raised all over the world to store our data of important information, messages, documents, stories – and to house the AI that is becoming more and more dominant in our lives.
Data centres demand vast amounts of energy and water to keep them running. No one wants them in their backyard. They are part of a system that will almost certainly destroy our planet. But we need them right, or do we?
Back in time we used to store our data in libraries, archives and even each other as we passed on our stories and the things we think matters to each other.
The indigenous writer Tyson Yunkaporta says that the only way to keep data safe in the long term is in relationships. What does this mean in a time of data centers and AI? Where should we safely put our knowledge for future generations?
In this Timeloop we wish to consult our ancestors from the past and our future descendants in the question of how we wish to store our data.
The Timeloop format is inspired by indigenous people in North America and original developed by the Dutch performance group Building Conversations.
