Welcome & Setting the Scene
An introduction to the day and a reminder of the ambition behind the Landscape Charter and Action Plan — keeping landscape thinking at the heart of our everyday decisions.
Presentations: Progress & Priorities
- Landscape Action Plan: Update, Priorities & Progress -an overview of where we are now, what has been achieved and where the focus is moving next. Hear about the updated research on landscape related policy in Scotland and its overlap with the Charter
- NS/HES Refreshed Joint Landscape Action Plan -an update on the joint approach and opportunities for collaborative landscape action.
Landscape in Practice: Case Studies
Hear from speakers showcasing 3 practical examples of landscape-led action including:
- Solway Coast and Marine Project- Landscape Connections (SCAMP) - is an ambitious coastal and marine nature restoration project, seeking to restore the coastal and shallow sea habitats of the Solway and supporting communities to adapt to the effects of climate change, be more resilient to predicted sea level rise, and gain sustainable economic and social benefits
- Speaker: Karen Morley – Programme Manager for SCAMP and Dumfries and Galloway Council
- Route Map to Healthy Soils – Soils underpin all nature-based systems and are therefore vital for Scotland’s communities and economy. The route map delivers a strategy for delivering improved soil security across Scottish landscapes.
- Speaker: Dr Sarah Buckingham -SLR consulting and former ClimateXchange research fellow
- Glasgow Avenues (speakerto be confirmed) - delivering quality placemaking & active travel infrastructure to transform Glasgow’s city centre.
Lunch and Networking
Active Workshops: Landscape thinking about Change & Solutions
- An interactive session to generate ideas, energy and support for future landscape action. Together, we will explore emerging challenges and future actions, asking how viewing current issues through the landscape lens of the Charter can help us understand and respond to these challenges.
- The workshops will create space to share perspectives, identify opportunities and develop practical ideas for action.
Workshop 1: Drivers of landscape change and impacts at range of scales - what are appropriate mitigation or adaption measures to manage change.

Workshop 2: A landscape thinking approach to land management across all scales to support integrated, place-based landscape management and decision-making.

Workshop 3: Story telling initiatives through a landscape lens – how can we support telling of stories, lived experience and knowledge at local scale

End Note: Passion Points
A fast-paced closing session giving attendees the opportunity to share their one big idea, priority or passion point for the future actions of the Landscape Charter.
