This is a one-day workshop for people who want to make their own social media content.
Andrew and Jay guide you to create your own short talking-head video in a pro studio, during a hands-on workshop. That means YOU, on camera, talking: a short, a podcast intro, a portfolio video, a mini-documentary, an explainer, or anything else you'd like to create.
You can bring your own gear. You can also try the studio cameras, the audio equipment, the lights, the teleprompter, the backgrounds, and the editing presets.
MODULES
What happens on the day:
Social media research
- Decide on format, length, tone of voice, audience persona and more.
- What is the problem your audience wants solved?
- How do you tell what is working on social and what is not?
The idea
- We'll help you generate your next 100 video ideas.
- How do you find an idea that can travel? Not every idea is equally effective on social. Some go big, others die.
- How do you present yourself as the most obvious solution to your audience's needs?
Scripting and writing
- A step-by-step system to turn an idea into a video.
- Storytelling best practies: hooks, content, stroy structure, with many examples.
- What to say, and what to leave out. The title, the thumbnail, the tone of voice, the structure, and how you present it.
The biggest section: technical knowledge
- Audio: choosing your microphone, audio engineering basics.
- Video: which camera should I choose? Recording, formats, 4K picture.
- Lighting: techniques, Rembrandt lighting, video lights, shadows, colours, depth, the "cinematic look" (btw, we don't use this word very often).
- Setting up a home studio: sound isolation, equipment, space, etc.
- Post-production: video editing, software, colour grading basics, video formats, optimising for social media.
- Vertical content for shorts.
- Templates, transitions, effects, presets, one-click setups to speed up your workflow.
Recording your own content
- You, on camera, talking: a short, a podcast intro, a portfolio video, a mini-documentary, an explainer, or anything else you'd like to create.
- You record on the studio setup: teleprompter, studio audio, 4K picture, colour grading.
- Teleprompter use. Deliver your video from a script, or even unscripted.
- 3-4 takes is normal. A video of about 2 minutes usually takes 20 to 30 minutes to record.
On-camera coaching
- Technicals and best practices: speech, articulation, wording, cadence, expression, and what to do in front of the lens.
- How to perform on camera, even when you don't feel like it. Impostor syndrome, confidence.
- Find your voice: on-camera personality, tone of voice, your unique style.
Editing
- You cut your video on your laptop.
- You also learn systems for doing it yourself next time.
- Bring the software you use. Btw, DaVinci Resolve is the one we prefer.
Publishing
- You set up a channel, or you improve the one you already have. You put the video online if you are happy with it.
- Multi-platform: Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, podcasting platforms, etc.
Revenue
- Strategies for generating revenue from your content.
- Using content as a lead magnet.
- Online courses, content as a product, ad revenue, etc.
Optional: website and online presence
- Have a look at our system for setting up a professional website, with or without AI.
