Explore contemporary movement through athleticism, musicality, spatial awareness, and expressive intention with dancer, choreographer, educator, and scholar Tristian Griffin.
This 90-minute workshop will guide participants through a contemporary movement practice shaped by Griffin’s experience in ballet, modern dance, floorwork, improvisation, Afro-Caribbean fusion, and composition.
Griffin is a 2026 graduate of Duke University’s MFA in Dance program, with graduate study in African and African American Studies. He has performed professionally with Garth Fagan Dance, Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Company, the Metropolitan Opera, and at the Kennedy Center. He was selected as a Jacob’s Pillow Choreography Fellow and has created commissioned work for Duke University, the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University, Newport Contemporary Ballet, and Malashock Dance Company.
His work will also be featured as part of Empower’s Fringe Festival on November 6–7, giving workshop participants an opportunity to experience his movement practice in class and encounter his choreographic voice in performance.
Participants should wear comfortable movement clothing and be prepared to work barefoot or in socks.
