Constraints and Creativity: An Improv Coop Workshop by Charlie Bailey

This workshop explores how putting rules and restrictions on your scenework can make you more creative, playful and free. We’ll experiment with a range of constraints — perhaps you can never face the audience, maybe your character always has their mouth full, or maybe your character can only walk backwards. We'll discover how these limitations can generate unexpected choices, characters and stories.

The aim isn’t to make the scenes harder, but to take away some of the pressure of having to constantly think of what to do next. By giving ourselves a rule to play with, hopefully we can get out of our heads and embrace the unexpected!

Your teacher, Charlie, performs in Squeaky Bum Time. He’s also in the creatively named duo, Mark and Charlie (with fellow improviser, Mark Deas). He trained in improv at The Free Association and Glasgow Improv Theatre and in acting at Rose Bruford Colleage.

Our venue is located next to Queen's Park station, with on-street parking outside (subject to availability). The venue is fully accessible.
