The Conservatory Youth Theatre Showcase is a special event presenting one act plays from the young performers in the Conservatory of Performing Arts Showtime acting program.Performances will include the following (in performance order):
Showtime Junior is our youngest acting program featuring performers ages 8-10. This group will be presenting Alice in Wonderland. This abridged version of Alice in Wonderland has all the charm of the classic story. Follow Alice to Wonderland where she encounters curious creatures like the White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat, and of course, the Queen of Hearts. Alice’s adventures teach her to question and wonder. In doing so, she finds her voice and the confidence she needs to grow. By Jennifer Reif. This group is directed by Zoe Gray.
Showtime Senior (5:30pm class) is our oldest acting program featuring performers ages 11-14. This group will be presenting Passing Periods at Pomegranate Prep. This one act play is an unconventional “day-in-the-life” one act with quirky characters, quick action, and fast-paced dialogue. Unique hallway moments perfectly capture the hustle and bustle of an average school day. Whether it’s misguided cheerleaders shirking responsibility in favor of flair, loveable loser athletes consoling each other in the face of mediocrity, or friendships being formed after tragedy, this play provides plenty of laughs peppered with poignant moments. By Jon Jory. This group is directed by Joseph Shane McLellan.
Showtime Senior (7:15pm class) is our oldest acting program featuring performers ages 11-14. This group will be presenting The Whatsit. Exactly what is the Whatsit? That’s the equivocal question in this off-the-wall one-act comedy that slyly exploring mankind’s appetite for status, beauty, and material things. A sculpture of found metal objects — a “gawky tower” of junk — the Whatsit has an uncanny ability to draw characters in, only to set them straight with quick and frank lessons in humility. Referring to itself as a “spirit of mischief” and an “instrument of chaos,” the Whatsit delivers on both fronts, providing a wacky journey through time, full of pearls of wisdom good throughout the ages. It is a perfect blend of silly and sophisticated you will certainly enjoy. By Jon Jory. This group is directed by Joseph Shane McLellan.
There will be a short 10-min transition break between each show just to reset the stage and organize students.
Tickets are $8.40 in advance and $10.50 at the door, inclusive of fees and taxes. Seating is not assigned. Tickets can be purchased from the Darke Hall Box Office (306-523-2751) or online by using the "Find Tickets" link in this event.
