Get ready for five days of singing, dancing, and performing at the Conservatory Musical Theatre Showcase. Students from the University of Regina Conservatory of Performing Arts’ youth musical theatre programs are sure to dazzle and delight the audience with their triple threat status.Performances on DAY 5 (Friday, January 15) will include the following (in performance order):
Mini Glee (Thursday, 5:00pm & 5:50pm classes) presents choral music from Disney’s Mary Poppins. These groups are directed by Fallon Hantelman-Stewart with support from Aubrey Mutala.
Senior Glee (Friday class) presents Shrek The Musical KIDS. Beauty is in the eye of the ogre! The musical is based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek. One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he's handed a task — if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn't be complete without a few twists and turns along the way. It's a "big bright beautiful world" as everyone's favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, this dazzling adventure story is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family. Based on the DreamWorksAnimation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig. Book and Lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. Music by Jeanine Tesori. Originally produced on Broadway by DreamWorks Theatrical and Neal Street Productions. Original Production Directed by Jason Moore and Rob Ashford. “I’m A Believer” by Neil Diamond. Shrek The Musical KIDS is directed by Chip McDaniel with assistance from Vuyo Ginindza and Yzabelle Lopez.
There will be a short transition break between Mini Glee and Senior Glee just to reset the stage and coordinate students.
There will be a 15-minute intermission between shows just to reset the stage.
Tickets are $12.60 in advance and $15.75 at the door, inclusive of fees and taxes. Seating is not assigned. Tickets can be purchased from the Darke Hall Box Office (306-523-2751) or online by using the "Find Tickets" link in this event.
