Join the MidCoast Watersheds Council and the Ceramics Studio at the Lincoln City Cultural Center for a place-based workshop that connects conservation with hands-on clay making!
We’ll begin with a guided nature walk at the Cutler City Wetlands Trail, learning about restoration, the importance of tidal wetlands, and the role native plants play in healthy ecosystems. After the walk, we will head to the nearby Ceramics Studio at the Lincoln City Cultural Center to create a hand-built mug using native plants!
This program invites participants to be inspired by the botanical forms, textures, and patterns observed along the walk and transform a natural experience into art!
No prior clay experience is required. Your pieces will be fired and glazed for you.
Schedule and logistics:
- We will meet at 8:30 am on Saturday, October 3rd at the Cutler City Wetlands Trailhead. We’ll spend approximately 45 minutes walking on the trail under the guidance of MidCoast staff.
- After the walk, we will head to the nearby Ceramics Studio at the Lincoln City Cultural Center (540 NE Hwy 101, Lincoln City) for the remainder of the time.
- Under the guidance of Ceramics Studio staff, attendees will make a hand-built botanical-impressed mug, which will be fired and glazed for you.
- Clay pieces can be picked up at the Lincoln City Cultural Center after glazing and firing (takes about a month)
- Note that the trail can be rough, rocky, and slippery in places. This event will happen rain or shine, so please come prepared for whatever the skies throw at us! We recommend wearing clothes that you feel comfortable walking in and getting dirty in the clay studio.
- All materials for the clay project, including native plants for pressing into clay, will be provided, and are included in the ticket price.
- Ages 13 and up are welcome (minors must be accompanied by an adult). Class size is limited to 10 participants.
- Cost is $65/person (plus a $6.21 service fee from EventBrite). Please reach out to [email protected] if cost is a barrier to learning - a scholarship spot is available.

Saturday, October 3rd from 8:30 am to 12 pm
- 8:30 to 9:30 am: Intros, 45-minute guided nature walk at Cutler City Wetlands Trail
- 9:30 am to 9:45 am: Travel to the Lincoln City Cultural Center
- 9:45 am to 12 pm: Mug making session with native plants
