Art & Tech Talk with Alexandra Hunts about the artwork "Absent Body For a Mass" which she is creating in honor of TU/e's 70th anniversary.
About this Event

How do invisible forces create balance within large systems? This is the central question behind 'Absent Body For a Mass', the new work which Alexandra Hunts is making on commission from TU/e to mark both the university's 70th anniversary and the CORe Values.

During this lunch lecture held at TU/e innovation Space, Alexandra will speak on her work and the research that underpins the sculpture: a concrete form with a mirroring stainless steel recess, inspired by the tuned mass damper; the invisible counterweight that absorbs movement in tall buildings and enables stability.

Alexandra takes you through her making process, which connects engineering and art, and that partly took place in the workshops at TU/e innovation Space. She shows which technical developments and experiments played a role in the creation of the artwork, and how this relates to the eventual visualization of the interplay between force and counterforce, between technological progress and the question of how to shape it safely, ethically, and sustainably.

After the talk there will be room for questions and the opportunity to visit the workshops in Matrix.

The lecture is aimed at TU/e students, members of the staff, and anyone interested in the combination of art and technology, as well as in the TU/e Art & Tech Community. Will you join us?
