MIRRA KANNAN presents PAULINE OLIVEROS' Sonic Meditations: A Collage of Collective Soundings
Mirra doesn't claim to know who she is but the world makes sense to her through sound, which she insists brings out the synchronicities of our collective being. She seeks to transform her pursuit of the 'why's and 'how's of her observations into 'why not's - which is why she practices, at the moment, as a conservator of buildings, pianos and occasionally herself.

Pauline Oliveros' (1932-2016) life as a composer, performer and humanitarian was about opening her own and others' sensibilities to the universe and facets of sounds. Her career spanned fifty years of boundary dissolving music making. In the '50s she was part of a circle of iconoclastic composers, artists, poets gathered together in San Francisco. In the 1960's she influenced American music profoundly through her work with improvisation, meditation, electronic music, myth and ritual.
She was the recipient of four Honorary Doctorates and among her many recent awards were the William Schuman Award for Lifetime Achievement, Columbia University, New York, NY, The Giga-Hertz-Award for Lifetime Achievement in Electronic Music from ZKM, Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe, Germany and The John Cage award from from the Foundation of Contemporary Arts.
Oliveros was Distinguished Research Professor of Music at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY, and Darius Milhaud Artist-in-Residence at Mills College. She founded "Deep Listening®," which came from her childhood fascination with sounds and from her works in concert music with composition, improvisation and electro-acoustics. She described Deep Listening as a way of listening in every possible way to everything possible to hear no matter what you are doing. Such intense listening includes the sounds of daily life, of nature, of one's own thoughts as well as musical sounds.

GO WENT GONG with CURIOUS SEED MAINTAIN session artists perform a new score for movement and music
go went gong (Giorgos Bouras) uses his own homemade stringed instruments, clarinet, unsynchronised loops, video, cassette tapes and lo-tech gadgetry to create kaleidoscopic musical environments that blur the boundaries of performer and audience. The sound of go went gong feels both intense and soothing, like being swaddled in a warm blanket of sound.

RAIMENTS
Sound experiments on acoustic guitar with bow interspersed with songs.
Mano Camatsos is of Greek origin, born in South Africa with an upbringing fragmented across parts of the United States, Europe and South America. He began making music while studying film in Los Angeles, developing his style and production skills in Oxford and on his native island of Lesvos. He then stayed in Los Angeles and New York forming music groups as well as recording an urban ethnographic album documenting the Occupy Los Angeles protests.
He eventually moved to Berlin to form a music group under the name of Raiments, and for four years played shows, festivals and concerts while producing three albums, featuring different constellations of guest players. Mano continues to perform as Raiments in Edinburgh and toured the UK in 2019, bringing his songs of ants and cats and sci fi tower blocks to the masses.
